Christmas spirit seen at seasonal bird sales

Newton Abbot Market

 

Buyers were in the Christmas spirit at Rendell's Newton Abbot Market annual dead poultry sale, which saw a record breaking number of entries, with almost 900 lots on offer for 250 keen buyers.

 

pk 025.jpgTopping the turkey section was a 39 1bs bird entered by A S Prouse, Ogwell, Newton Abbot. Geese's topped at £62 entered by P Coles, Crediton for a 16.5 1bs goose.

 

Next up for offer were chickens which topped at £23 for M Prior, West Sussex. Ducks also saw a strong sale with top price bird also entered by Mr P Cole, Crediton selling for £10 a head.  

Averages: Turkey. £19.33; Geese £22.48; Chicken, £13.72; Duck, £13.72

 

Dingwall Highland Marts

 

Dingwall Highland Marts also saw a spirited sale with 165 lots of Christmas poultry up for offer. Oven ready turkeys sold to 3.17p/1b for an 8.51b bird form Dalrachney Beag, Carr Bridge, £65 gross for a 23.51b bird from Home Farm Cottages, Aberlour.

 

Oven ready gooses sold to 3.77.8p/1b and £51 gross for a 13.51b bird from Oliclett Farm Thrumster.

 

Oven ready ducks sold to 514.3p/1b for a 3.5ib bird from Meikle Rhynie Farmhouse, Tain and £18 gross for a 41b bird also from Meikle Thynie Farmhouse.
