The second collective offering of dairy cattle within seven days at Beeston Castle, Cheshire, produced an even stronger trade for the cattle on offer at the market's mid-month fixture where bidding reached 2500gns for a calved Holstein heifer.
"There was another strong demand and comparing the quality of cattle on offer at the two sales, these cattle looked even dearer," said a spokesman for auctioneers Wright Manley.
The day's top call came for the smart red and white in-calf Holstein heifer Dallyfarm Design Emma Marie Red 4 from L H Day, Norwich. By Stelbro Design and bred from six generations of VG and Excellent dams, she was due next month to Stooky Elm Park Rec Star and was bought by Peter Mercer, Crewe.
And it was another stylish red and white Holstein heifer from Knutsford, Cheshire, vendors O C Whittaker and Sons that led the calved section making 2400gns to Buxton Partners, Barlaston, Staffordshire. She is by Whinchat Connoisseur Red.
The first stage of the dispersal of Hague Partners' Danevale Holstein herd from Middlewich, Cheshire, saw 22 head average £1652. They reached 2350gns paid by Mr Mellor, Whitchurch, for Danevale Profit Celia 3.
This fresh second calver is by Bidlea Profit who also sired the Danevale Profit Kirsty 5 that made 2100gns. Kirsty 5 calved in November after a heifer lactation of 8198kg and was taken by James Harrison, Tattenhall, Cheshire. And a third second calver by the same bull from the herd's Holly family made 2050gns to Mr Mellor.
A Summershade Igniter calved heifer realised 2050gns for A and C Orme, Warrington, while Mr Mellor was in again at 2100gns to secure Dallyfarm Principal Rolls 5, a Crichel Principal calved heifer out of an 11,000kg dam that goes back to some of the good Rolls breeding in the Holmland herd.
Averages: 97 cows and calved heifers £1445 and 18 in-calf heifers £1458. Danevale reduction - 22 head £1652. (Wright Manley).
