Well, with most auctioneers back in the swing of things after the Christmas and New Year break things are slowly starting to hot up on the sales front.

This weekend sees the round of in-lamb ewe sales return with Texels to the fore at both Chelford and Lanark, Chelford also plays host to a sale of in-lamb Beltex females, including a reduction of the Lamberhurst flock on behalf of Marshall Farms, Somerset. Among the Texels at Lanark are the dispersals of the Haremoss flock for Marine Gibb,  the Croft flock on behalf of Messrs Howieson and the Netherkeir flock on behalf of Messrs Harvey.

Then next week sales get going in real style with Dolgellau hosting a sale of 99 pedigree Welsh Blacks and Harrison and Hetherington opening their doors for the first major sale of the year with Graham Brindley staging a production sale from his Bringlee herd of British Blues.

After that its full steam ahead for the rest of the year with dairy sales lining up including the Western Holstein Club's sale at Beeston this Thursday and then Wright Manley's mid month sale at Beeston next Tuesday.

On the beef front, the final ever Spring Bull Sales to be staged at Perth kcik off on Monday 2 February with Aberdeen Angus and Limousins the main breeds of the first week. The Charolais and Simmental fixtures then follow a fortnight later.

As ever Taking Stock will bring you all the action from the main sales, so don't forget to keep checking back for the latest sale reports

Any news from last weekends in lamb texel sales?

MT Jonathan Long

Full reports should be through later today, but I do know that Lanark topped at 3200gns for one from Marina Gibb, while Chelfod peaked at 1380 for a Gordon Gray entry. More news and pics once I have it.....

Big English Ram

Hey beefy! I think you should be interested in the beef cattle as your name is beefy?! No im only joking! Ive heard your a good sheep man to! Good luck with the texels!

Loopy lou

Anybody at the Bringlee sale today? Hear that there is a go sandy x baron hfr there?

MT Jonathan Long

Can't get there myself, but I've got a couple of spies in place, so will bring news through the day, certainly some good cattle in the catalogue, that Baron x Sandy heifer is probably one of the picks from the photo in the catalogue, cracking end on her and smart on top too - black as well.

Bringlee Dahlia (lot 18) could be a flyer too if the photo's anything to go by, sweet blue and white heifer.

I must admit I don't know much about Blues, but their heifer which was champion at the Welsh calf show last month is a cracking heifer (lot 36), and also had another first (lot 18).

MT Jonathan Long

Good spot on Lot 36, have to admit to missing that one in the catalogue as the pic is rear end on only! But she look's full of flesh and long too. Her mother look's like a tank of a cow, but still quite sweet headed. Sale kicks off at 1130, so hopefully have some news through the afternoon.

Miss Wales

Hear that Lot 3 could be a cracker.... Lot 6 looks smart in catalogue... I'm sure that there will be a few fliers today....

MT Jonathan Long

Lot 6 11,000gns, certainly was my pick from the catalogue and well bred too - not that I know that much about Blues!!
