South west mourns loss of leading auctioneer

Farmers from across the south west will gather at Exeter Market later today for a memorial service for auctioneer Alan Venner of Husseys.

Alan, one of the areas leading sheep auctioneers for many years sadly passed away on 28 December and will be sorely missed by all those he met through his year's in the rostrum at Exeter.

Having had the pleasure of working with Alan for a couple of years at the turn of this century when I was based in the south west, I for one will be forever grateful to have met him and had the chance to learn from him. His easy going manner and unique patter marked him out as a gentleman among auctioneers and his passion for the industry was second to none.

The Taking Stock team send their condolences to Alan's family and all who knew him.
