Buyers from all parts of the country were attracted to last week's store cattle sale at Bishops Castle, Shropshire, which produced an overall average per head of £805. Eleven cattle sold for more than £1100/head and an additional 43 cattle made in excess of £1000/head.
The prize classes were judged by Kevin Scott of Stottesdon and Charlie Jones of Leicester. After much deliberation the silver salver, sponsored by Halls Auctioneers, was awarded to Wyn Jerman, of J Jerman and Co, Rhiwbrongelly, Trefeglwys, near Llanidloes for his 500kg Simmental steers that sold for £1080.

Mr Jerman, a loyal supporter of Bishops Castle auction, also took second place with 420kg Simmental steers that sold for £945 and third was Frank Jones, Lydbury North with 620kg Limousin steers for £1145.

The heifer section was won by Brian Williams, Hill End, Plowden with 360kg British Blue heifers for £740. Second was Philip Turner, Stone Acton with 425kg Simmental heifers for £920 and third was Keith Meddins, Lynwood, Churchstoke with 340kg heifers for £960.
Strong steers averaged 200p/kg and £880/head, with top price of 323p/kg for a 280kg Limousin steer from Philip Bowen and Bowen and Bowen, Brooks while heifers averaged 185p/kg and £715 a head, with a top price of 255.4p/kg from Philip Turner.
Bulls averaged £702 a head, with a top price of £710 or 186.8p/kg for a 380kg Limousin from Aston Hall Farms, Churchstoke.
Might be worth getting a sale report from Dingwall mart for the store sale today wed, the Hi-Health section of breeding heifers made some outstanding prices.

Hi Forgotten Man, thanks for the info, the report hit my inbox just after I left last night, I'll get a post up shortly, although there is no mention in the report of breeding heifers, just stores at seriously high prices which I guess were the breeders.
