Herefords hit 5000gns at Hereford

Saturday's Hereford sale at the breed's home market of Hereford hit a peak of 5000gns when Paul Dickin sold October 2007-born bull Jacobean 1 Malster. By Bosa 1 Blandy, this one is out of Costhorpe 1 Avril, a daughter of Costhorpe 1 Scallywag and was bought by J E Jones and Son, Chirbury, Montgomeryshire.

Next best at 4100gns was Romany 1 Enhance from Messrs Wilson, Kelso. By Crickley 1 Figurehead and out of Romany 1 Lucy, a Remitall Online daughter, this one sold with a terminal sire index of +27 and a self replacing index of +34. He sold to H A Colburn and Son, Northleach, Glos.

Then at 3700gns was Dendor 1 Ernie from Messrs Jones, Powys. Ernie is by Bosa 1 Mr Bean and out of Dendor 1 Goldie and sold with a TSI of +17 and a SRI of +20. He was snapped up by P and A M Riley, Towcester, Northants.

At 3100gns was  the day's champion from the pre-sale show, Alderville 1 Eldorado from D J Deaville. Eldorado is a June 2007-born son of Doonbiddie Hustler and out of Aldersley 1 Evelyn. He has a TSI of +26 and an SRI of +31 and sold to J H Jones and Co, Bow Street, Cardiganshire.

DSC_0692 Champion Lot 20.jpgAmong the females the best bid was a 2900gns call for Romany 1 Ishbel, again from the Wilsons of Kelso. This one is by Baybridge 1 Atlas and out of a dam by the same name and carries a TSI of +28 and an SRI of +35. She was sold in-calf to SMH Calgary and was bought by G Hall, Radcliffe, Manchester.

Averages; 14 bulls £2970, six show heifers £1653.75.
