Galloways continue Royal Highland winning ways

| 6 Comments | No TrackBacks

Having got back to the south again I'm just catching up with the last of the Royal Highland results.

In the beef lines the Galloways continued their winning ways, taking yesterday's interbreed pairs title to add to the individual, quartet and native team of three awards they'd already collected at the event. Standing reserve in the pairs were the Limousin duo.

Across in the sheep lines the pairs title went to the Hampshire down brace from Jim and Patsi Cresswell, Wattisfield, Diss, while reserve were the Texel pairing from the Wights of Midlock and John Forsyth, Glenside.

WOW, what a result for the natives and Galloway breed in particular.

It's ironic that it took a breeder of 2 Continental cattle breeds based in the English Midlands to wake the Scots up to the potential of ALL their native breeds, this does underline 'eye for a guid beast' however.

Ringside choice for 3rd in the individual interbreed would have been for the Highlander Heifer where I was standing.

Has to be said the Galloway was simply outstanding, if he'd been overlooked for the overall there could well have been a riot! Highland heifer was a sweet looking thing indeed, she was pretty close to the top of the heap for me too. A grand show of cattle of sheep across the board, roll on the rest of the season.

Miss Wales

I too liked the highlanders for the pairs - the bull was a really fab beast.

Fair play tho' thought that the judge would run to a script - clearly not as the best beast won, what a superb animal the galloway is (the cow's no mug either!) - really well deserved!

Yes indeed Miss W, this is where I would have liked to had a chance to see all this and not having to be a parent-slave! (only kidding my mum is getting her MBE as we speak so I better not sound too hard done to)
Seriously though it's good to see other breeds with exhibits that match up to some of the stronger breeds aheivments of the past.
Did you get your letter posted to the Black Isle folk?

Love your description MW "the cows no mug either" - that she wasn't! Really pleased for the breed - really kncoked one or two not so great Continentals in to their place - and that's all I'm saying!
