Paton's take the commercial championship

Coming out on top form at this year's Royal Highland show was Bertie and Patsy Paton, Angus, with their Charolais cross steer The Bard. No stranger to winning ways this year, the Paton's actually turned the tables on their other entry Hazy Jane, who has been doing most of the winning this year for him.

The Bard was purchased at Thainstone from commercial breeders J and J Wilson, Inverness and is by Middledale Toronto.

The reserve came from Hugh and Lynne Dunlop, Cumnock, Ayrshire, with their Limousin cross steer Soutar johnnie. This one is bred by their own stock bull out of a Limousin cross dam and weighs 530kg. He has already taken a championship ticket at this year's Ayrshire YFC Show. He will be part of the Dunlop's winter fatstock team for the back end.

Good to see animals purchased at Thainstone taking both the male and female sections, the Patons also won £500 from Aberdeen & Northern Marts for the champion having been bought at Thainstone. Surely encouragement for others to source there show cattle in the north.
