Well after an early start this morning to get sheep fit for judging - the efforts were rewarded in the Southdowns, less so in the Hampshire Downs - that's about it from me today. It's been a better day in weather terms here at Stoneleigh and once again there's been plenty of good stock on show.
There's also been plenty of talk about what will happen next year and the general conclusion is much as I predicted - most breed societies are willing to help find judges and stewards and manage the trophies and scheduling, but few if any are willing to pitch in with any financial support or help persuade sponsors to back a show here in 2010.
Overall, I can't say I blame them, with sponsorship moeny hard to come by at the moment most breed societies are looking to use it where it will gain most value and regional shows look the better bet compared to here at the moment.
So, with all the breed judging done, its on to the interbreeds in the beef, pig and sheep lines tomorrow, I'm not sure where my money's going but I'd take a punt on the Charolais and the British Blue being close in the beef, as for the sheep I'm not sure, but the Charollais ewe shouldn't be far away.
