In a bid to avoid the disruption being caused by the current postal strikes, exhbitors for this month's English Winter Fair are being asked to collect their entry details, when they arrive at the show, rather than receiving them in the post.
Kate Tomlinson, EWF show secretary, says the post is just too unpredictable currently to guarantee exhibitors get the correct documentation for cattle, sheep and pigs entered for this year's event at Stafford Showground on the weekend of 21-22 November. "We have had to take matters into our own hands to protect producers.
"Exhibitor packs containing livestock numbers, passes, hospitality tickets and catalogue vouchers will be retained at the showground. Instead, we are arranging for producers to collect packs when arriving with livestock at the event on Friday 20 November."
"Despite the disruption being felt by all winter shows we are very pleased to report entries for all but one livestock section are up significantly on last year's inaugural event which, in itself, was well attended," adds Mrs Tomlinson.

can anyone recommed good blue ai bulls for breeding show calves? it's for crossing on lim/blonde cows. thanks.
Auchenlay Vagabond is leaving good show calves for the Richardsons, not sure if there's semen available from him, but I've got a feeling there may be, certainly worth enquiring about.
I was wondering what the chances were of getting some limo semen of dyke triumph and how do you get in touch with the macarthurs. And did you hear about the rocky lim calf that was sold in kilkenny at the weekend to E. Jones for 5950 euro.
hi jonathan, did that bath and south west growing cattle fair take place this year, like the one last year or not ?
Hadn't heard about the Rocky calf from Kilkenny, sounds like it must be good for that money. Best bet to get in touch is to do a google search for MacArthur, of Mid Fleenas, Nairn, should find you a telephone number.
Hi TRLM, Beef and Growing Cattle south west takes place every two years, so no event this year, although there are plans for a sized up winter fair at Sedgemoor market.
That limousin calf got the reserve limo champ at the winter fair in kilkenny last Sunday. She won the all ireland calf championship during the summer at bonniconlon show in Mayo and is out of a charolais x heifer that sold for €8500 at the 2006 winter fair. Many thanks to the 48 welsh show men & woman who made the trip to Ireland for the 13th national Winter Fair and look forward to seeing ye again in Builth Wells!!!
Many thanks to all who gave us a wonderful weekend in ireland we all very much enjoyed our time spent with you .The heifer was sold to elfed williams not e jones as stated she will be shown in the new year. once again many thanks for a great time
There has been semen drawn from the dyke bull but i'd recommend middledale toronto from the wilsons at cairnglass too. Would be a good click to blonde type cows in particular.
B.G.C do you know what the story would be about getting the semen across to N.I? I was thinking of trying him in aflush with two extreme muscled blue heifers one is blue/lim and the other a blue/char both heifers are lacking style and correctness would he be the right bull for the job?
