Halls take RHWF sheep title

Top honours in the sheep lines went to John Hall and his brother Peter with a pair of Beltex cross lambs from their 2000-ewe flock based at Carlisle. This was the Halls third championship at the event.

TS Scottish Sheep Champ .jpgTheir leading lambs are by a tup bred by Glen Forsyth and out of homebred Beltex cross ewes. They tipped the scales at 50.5kg apiece and were praised by the judge, Joe Greenhill, for their eveness of fleshing and excellent gigots.

Taking the reserve was another perennial primestock show prizewinner, Brian MacTaggart, Douganhill Farms, Dumfriesshire. This pair were by a homebred Texel tup out of 7/8 Texel ewes from the farm's 100 ewe crossbred flock which runs alongside 600 North Country Cheviots and 150 pedigree Texels. This pair weighed in at 43.5kg each.

TS Scottish Res Champ A.jpgChampion hill lambs were a brace of South Country Cheviots from Andrew Reid which went across the scales at 42.75kg each.
