OK guys here's your chance to keep warm this winter with a free Musto jacket from Merial.

To celebrate the inagural AgriLIVE Smithfield event at Stoneleigh Farmers Weekly and supreme champion sponsor Merial have teamed up to give you the chance to win a Musto jacket.

Musto Coat.jpgAll you have to do is rank the last three supreme beef champions pictured below in the order you believe they would stand if judged against each other. The first person drawn out of the hat which matches the order of Farmers Weekly's Taking Stock team will win the jacket. To enter simply add your selection as a comment on this entry.

The champions are 2004 winner Dancing Queen from Hugh and Lynn Dunlop.

Scrivphoto Champion 04.jpg2006 winner The Deer Stalker from Mark Hallam.

Scrivphoto Champion 06.jpg And last year's winner Divine Diva from Alistair and Liz Vance.TS Champion 08.jpg

UPDATE - here are the weights for the three of them - Dancing Queen 606kg, The Deer Stalker 598kg and Divine Diva 479kg.

right here goes.......
This is a difficult one because the pictures don't really do the animals justice having seen all three in the flesh. For me The Deer Stalker has to edge it - I remember being so impressed with this steer at smithfield, he was clean, wide from behind with an immense top to him and a really great loin. Judge Brian Glaves couldn't praise him enough. If there was a prize for most stunning heifer ever to have walked a ring Dancin Queen would win it by a country mile - she oozed class and ring pressence and had the best locomotion seen in a fatstocker for some time, bit in terms of commercial meat attributes the steer edges it. I would have loved to see the steer on a hook but wouldn't want to see the heifer - did Alford ever get anything out of her for his £15k price tag! Divine Diva not really in the running for me - never has the size to make a good carcass weight or the cover.

Will this years winner begin with a D?

pin comb

ooh Forgotten Man - you've got me thinking of anything that's out starting with a D - can't think off hand that will likely be at Smithfield

MT Jonathan Long

I had a feeling this one might draw some interest. I spotted the D theme when I was loading the photos earlier, I can't recall seeing anything flash beginning with D so far this season, but there's time yet.... Live reporting from Ingliston tomorrow, so watch this space for all the news

There's always Dick Turpin, the Countryside Live champ!

Seeing as there is a captive audience of fatstock enthusiasts, I need some advice!! What colour halter would you put on a pure Charolais for a fatstock show? Do I go with the brown leather the pedigree ones wear or rope?

Pin comb

Ali always White Rope never show fatstockers on leather halters that's only for pedigree showing

Thanks for the help!! Bit of a novice at fatstock, got 2 Charolais heifers that are jenny's so their in the fattening pen for Xmas! Thought that would be the answer, will go and beg, borrow or steal a couple not planning to make this a regular thing!

I've just raided the officee to dig out the past Smithfield catalogues to find the weights of these three. It may, or may not change the way you want to place them. Dancing Queen tipped the scales at 606kg, Deer Stalker was 598kg and Divine Diva was 479kg.

The Bull

Dancing Queen edges it for me a truly wonderful heifer with all the attributes i would look for in a fatstocker! Grace, style, locomotion and carcase! A lovely beast we would all love to have owned. Second has to be Deer stalker who was a tremendous carcase throughout but just lacked the style etc of Dancing Queen. I would then have Diva third, no fault off hers that she has been pitched against such wonderful fatstockers but had plenty of class and sweetness and taken to win, suiting Jim Quail down to the ground.!! All deserved winners in there victorious year!!
