Newly calved cows still in demand as Bentham trade tops £2200

Bentham Auction's weekly sale of newly calved dairy cattle saw an entry of 30 pedigree and commercial Holsteins to average more than £2000 a head. Leading the way was a newly calved heifer giving 32 litres daily from J D and C L Inman, Strickland Hill, Witherslack selling for £2200 to M E Wannop and Sons, Morecambe. Messrs J and M Robinson, Hoggetts Lane, Carnforth sold the top priced 2nd calved cow giving 32 litres daily to Aubrey Greenhalgh on behalf of Alan Swales of Joylan Farms.

 

A batch of 10 heifers (sired by sons of Talent) recently served by Shottle sired bulls from Messrs Millican, Penrith made up to £1160 a head and purchased by Messrs J and K Wilson, Kendal, to average £1078. (Benthan and District Farmers' Auction Mart)
