Two calls of 9000gns topped British Blue trade in Carlisle today, both of whihc securing bulls from Michele Wilde's Bedfordshire herd. The first was for the March 2008-born Ridge Dean Dynamo (lot 21) who stood male and overall supreme champion under judge Richard Carter of the Twyning Ash herd.
This ET-bred son of Empire D'Ochain is out of one of the herd's great cows Ridge Dean Navette. With good performance figures culminating in a carcase yield of +22, he knocked down at 9000gns to NG Beveridge, Top Law, Co Durham.
The next at the same money was a half brother Ridge Dean Delta (lot 22). Again by Empire, this one is out of Ridge Dean Navette and sold with a carcase yeild score of +24 having stood third in the same class to SG benson, Ulverston, Cumbria.
Second highest bid of the day from the shown bulls on offer was one of the earlier lots in the ring, Clonmore Ben (lot 5) from Oliver McGuinness. This October 2007-born bull is by Baron Du Bois Bauloyeand out of Clonmore Violet. This one is no stranger to life on the Northern Irish show circuit where he picked up the junior male, male champion and overall breed champion at Balmoral. He also won the Bull derby at Castlewellan. He sold for 8500gns to commercial producers Messrs Metcalfe, Penrith, Cumbria.
Next at 7800gns and the best from Co Londonderry-based Andrew Craig's offering was the first prize Woodview D Best (lot 36). Again, by Empire, this one is out of the Ridge Dean Physical daughter Woodview Alice. He sold with a carcase yield value of +25 to Richard and Julia Carter for their twyning Ash herd in Dursley, Glos.
His full ET brother Woodview Dave (lot 32) sold for the next highest price of 6200gns to HG Blaxell and Sons, Norwich, Norfolk.
The next at the same money was another from Michele Wilde, this time the second prize Ridge Dean Dumbledore (lot 20). Another by Empire, Dumbledore is out Ridge Dean Valentine, another great cow from this stable going back to Ridge Dean Jessie. He sold to Northern Irish producers WR and J Neil of Downpatrick.
The highest priced bull from Northamptonshire-based Martin Clarke came in the form of Whitmanor Delinquent (lot 14). This January 2008-born son of the great Wilodge Ulex is out of a homebred daughter by Inexes. He sold at 5200gns to WD and B Thompson, Hartwhistle, Northumberland.
At the same money was James Annett's Snowy Ridge Dynamite Jim (lot 25), an ET-bred son of one of the most favourable Blue bulls at the moment Ballygrange Alex. This stylish black bull is out of the Jessie daughter Ridge Dean Wondering Gem and heads to Louth, Lincolnshire with F Wallis and Sons.
Another son of Alex, this time Woodview Dan (lot 31) from Andrew Craig found a new home with Perthshire-based Adrian Ivory for his commercial herd. This one is out of the Dafydd daughter Woodview Barbie, while at the same money Kevin Watret sold Solway View Danny (lot 35), a June 2008-born son of Gitan out of Lochside Wigtown to RW Emmott, Cockermouth, Cumbria.
Leading trade at 4800gns for shown females was the champion female and reserve supreme Strathearn Cinderella (lot 40) from Dermot and Gareth Small.
By Tamhorn Sumo and out of the Navette daughter Ridge Dean Wilful who sold for 9000gns at the Wilde About Blues sale in 2006. This is also paternal sister to Ridge Dean Another Bluey who sold for 10,500gns.cinderella knocked down to A and KM Barnes, Blackburn, Lancs for their Cowden herd.Next at 3100gns was the third prize heifer Lukeroyal Emerald from Mel and Diane Lucas. This ET-bred daughter of springbank Blackstar is out of the Twyning Ash Vaughan daughter Lukeroyal Blondie. she sold to TA Hughes, Lampeter, Ceredigion.
At 3000gns, Oliver Mcguinness sold his second prize heifer Faughanvale Daisy, a January 2008-born daughter of Hazelwood Freshman out of a Lukeroyal Snorth homebred daughter. She went to Richard Carruthers' Valley herd at Penrith, Cumbria.
Prior to that sale Mr McGuinness sold the third prize heifer Omorga Chloe, bred by John Moore for 2600gns to Ian Irwin, Co Fermanagh for his Erneroyal herd. Chloe is a daughter of the noted Dafydd out of Omorga Whitney.
