Northern Irish native beef championships launched

A new championship has been launched to highlight the merits of three UK cattle breeds in Northern Ireland. The Native Breeds Championships will showcase the best of the province’s Aberdeen-Angus, Beef Shorthorn and Hereford stock and will feature a range of judging in each section.

The event will be staged at the highly successful “Country comes to Town” festival at Portadown on Saturday 18 September.

Director of Agriculture for the event James Graham says the high profile event is the ideal platform to highlight the merits of the breeds. “The popularity of the breeds as both terminal sires and producers of superior replacement females is second to none. We are confident the Native Breeds Championships will become a firm favourite with breeders.”
