Ram trade at the NSA South West ram sale at Exeter saw averages in all the main breeds take giant leaps on last year, with Texel shearlings levelling the day at £532.03, a rise of £121 on last year, Charollais shearlings averaged £531, up £99 on last year and Suffolks sold to average £500.70, up by £105 on last year's trade.
Topping the sale was a Suffolk ram lamb from Robin Irwin, Umberliegh, when selling for 920gns, selling for 880gns was a Texel shearling from the Quick family, while top in the Charollais was a trio of sheep, with a shearling from Messrs Norman and Vile first to sell at 680gns, at the same money was another shearling from E G and J T Sleep, while a ram lamb from C Hopper also made the same price.
Other leading prices include a Beltex shearling from Louise Moorhouse at 600gns, Berrichon Du Cher shearlings lead at 640gns, while Poll Dorsets hit 430gns.
