Belgian Blue secures championship at Hull Christmas Fatstock show

A Belgian Blue steer from J L White, Manor Farm, Eastrington, secured the cattle championship at this week's Hull Christmas Fatstock show and sale at The Cattle Market, Dunswell.

 

Weighing in at 650kg he was purchased for 270p a kg by S Voase, Alan Jones Butchers, Preston.

 

At 220p a kg was reserve champion, a Belgian Blue x steer shown by T and B Boothroyd and Son, Crown Farm, Welwick. This one weighed 625kg and again went to Alan Jones Butchers.

 

Among the pigs, the Hodgson family won best pen of pigs with their five bacon pigs. They were later purchased by Ted Dillon, Butcher of Hessle Road, Hull for 120p a kg. Reserve champion pen of pigs went to Bishop Burton College. Their beasts went to Traves and Son, Escrick for 110p a kg.

 

A pen of sheep from P Farmery, Gilberdyke were crowned champion. These sold to judge, D and J Coulston for £130 a head. Bishop Burton College received reserve champion of sheep.
