Good show of cattle results in £1,220 top at Darlington

Darlington Farmers Auction Mart held their January Prize Show and Sale on Monday with an entry of 682 head of cattle. Comprising off 191 Store Bulls, 154 Store Steers 187 Store Heifers 11 Rearing Calves and 129 O.T.M and Cast Cows.

The largest ring of customers seen for some time were present from far and wide. They were presented with a magnificent show of cattle which saw a trade which can only be described as outstanding, according to auctioneers. Many cattle surpassed the £1,050 barrier and eight month old bullocks and heifers making £950 - £800.

An overall sale average of £892.36 was achieved with the top price of the day £1,220 for a strong Limousin heifer consigned by T S Willis.

The overall Championship was awarded to a classy 14-month-old British Blue Heifer consigned by Messrs C R Raine and Son, Stanhope Gate, which later went on to sell for £1,180.
