Perth Bull Sales 2012: Angus female top money makers

Among an offering of about 70 Angus females up for grabs at the sale, it was an entry from a select draft of females on offer from the renowned Rawburn herd of John Elliot, Roxburgh Mains, Kelos, that saw the top calls of the day.

Receiving a bid of 11,500gns was lot 20 (pictured above), Rawburn Ebony which sold to Angus Hodge, Hall Farm, Saxlingham, Norwich. She is by Rawburn Enigma and out of Rawburn Ebony and has a SRI of +47 and a TSI of +34. She is from the Rawburn's prized Hoff Ebony female line. Her sire has sired bulls to £30,000 and females to 12,000gns. She has been served to Rawburn Elmer.

 

Three lots then topped the 5,000gns mark with Lot 16, Rawburn Duchess Kent selling bang on the figure. This Rawburn Transformer son daughter is by Huxton Duchess of Kent and has a SRI of +62 (breed average +29) and a TSI of +44 (average +22). She sold to D E S Donegan, Brighton House, Dublin.


At 5,500gns it was Lot 18, Rawburn Rosebud, a KMK Alliance daughter and offspring of the top Canadian embryo donor, Willabar Rosebud 250G. Rosebud is a maternal sister to Elliot Rosebud which was 2005 Scottish National Calf Show Champion and sold at Stirling for 9,000gns to the Linton Gilbertines herd. This one found a home with the same Irish buyer as Duchess Kent. 


Lot 17 Rawburn Lady Hispade then went for 5,200gns. She is by Rawburn Transformer and out of Rawburn Lady Hi-Spade. Hispade has some of the best performance figures in the UK combining positive calving figures with excellent growth and carcass traits. Her three daughters have all been retained into the Rawburn herd and have an average TSI of +45 and a SRI of +59. Hispade herself has a SRI of +60 and a TSI of +44 and was snapped up by Angus Hodge.

 

Hurdcott dispersal

 

The dispersal of the Hurdcott Herd of Lady Elizabeth Glendyne, saw a top price of 8,000gns paid for one of the stock bulls on offer. This was lot 71 Wedderlie Posse, a Wedderlie Black Boss son out of Wedderlie Poppet. He has a TSI of +30 and a SRI of +38 and join the herd of A R Grieve of Carlhurlie, Leven, Fife.

 

At 5,500gns was Lot 53 Hurdcott Ermilee - a Wedderlie Ebtide daughter with a SRI of +39. She is Full sister of Hurdcott Eureka, dam of Hurdcott Emblem which sold for £20,000. This one went to C Richardson, 52 Derrycoose road, Portadown.

 

Another stock bull, Balsar Jellisand Eric (lot 72), a Catrionas Ellisand son with a SRI of +52 and a TSI of +34 sold for 5,200gng, this time to the Coghills at Muce, Birsay, Orkney.

 

Averages: 17 females, £3,909, Hurdcott dispersal; 46 females, £1,958, 2 stock bulls, £6930 (United Auctions)
