Perth Bull Sales 2012: Beef Shorthorn female moneymakers

From the selection of Beef Shorthorn females put to the sales ring at United Auctions here in Stirling, a total of seven made 2,000gns or more with the top call of 4,000gns going to female champion, Mr Charles Lowther's Lowther Capri 272 (lot 116) (pictured above).

This one is by LS Arctic and out of LS Capri 179; she has a TSI of +12 and a SRI of +12, and was sold PD'd in-calf to Glownlea Lightning 8th, due May 2012.  She was bought by J & D Haigh, Ashgrove Farm, Northwillingham, Lincolnshire.

Other leading prices this afternoon included 2,500gns for the reserve champion, Mr B Walling's Crichton Ballerina 489 (lot 134).  This one (pictured below) is by Crichton Flyer and out of Dunsyre Ballerina 7th.  She goes to Kincraigie Farm, Lumphanan, by Banchory, Aberdeenshire.

Falling not far behind at 2,400gns was Messrs C Macadie and Sons' Rosewood Rachel 5th of Skaillhouse (lot 105).  This one is by Bon-Accord Alpha and out of Rosewood Rachel of Skaillhouse.  She has a TSI of +10 and a SRI of +7.  She was snapped up Kelsocleugh Farm, Kelso.

AVERAGES: 25 females sold to an average of £1,751 and a top price of 4,000gns.

>> The Beef Shorthorn bulls are set to go under the hammer from 2pm onwards tomorrow.  Will the breed society's vice president Mark Holmes' prediction of big prices come true?  Will we see bulls hit the 20,000gns mark?  All will be revealed tomorrow...
