Kirkby Stephen easter prime show and sale

The Annual Easter prime show and sale of spring lambs and fat cattle saw a fantastic turnout of top quality local bred stock put in front of judge Gavin Little at Kirkby Stephen Mart on Tuesday. 

 

In all an entry of 1,191 prime sheep were forward with Mr Little awarding his overall champion to a single Texel cross lamb from the Bainbridge family, Bonnygate. Weighing 44kg this one went for ÂŁ130 (295.5p/kg) to Steadman’s Butchers, Kirkby Stephen.  A total of 12 spring lambs were also up for grabs and averaged 263.25p/kg (ÂŁ112.22).

 

The overall prime cattle championship was awarded to a smart British Blue heifer consigned by local supporters the Birkbeck Family, Castle Hill.  This heifer weighing 735kg made ÂŁ1,598.63 selling to Steadman’s Butcher.  Topping the prime cattle per kilo at 269.5p/kg was a heifer from Messrs Sowerby, Terry’s Farm.
