Dairy cattle sell to £2,250 at Gisburn pedigree sale

Buyers were not disappointed at Gisburn Auction Mart Pedigree Dairy Sale last week where there was both quality and quantity on offer with a total of 17 of the 59 cattle forward finding new homes in Cumbria.  

Reclaiming pole position was Colin Singleton, Goosnargh, Preston selling a 35kg Buckeye heifer to J and M M Walmsley and Son, Downham, Clitheroe for £2,250 closely followed by his 32kg Cogent Loader heifer selling at £2,200 to Richard Critchley and Sons, Hutton, Preston.  

Last months winner Jeremy Taylor, Broughton, Skipton took £2,180 for a Bolivia Allan daughter and £2,020 for a Matson daughter both joining Jeff Wilson, Rockcliffe, Carlisle.  

The Champion prize went to J R and S T Pye, Barton, Preston with a smart second calver by Regancrest Die Hard and she also joined Mr Wilson at £2,020. Trade was especially firm for the second quality heifers with most selling around £1,700.  

In the regular weekly sale S and P J Scrivin, Elslack, Skipton took £1,920 for a Denmire sired heifer which continued their marvellous run of heifers by this bull. In calf cattle were harder to sell but top price of £1,760 went to Alan Harker, Long Preston, Skipton with a heifer due to the Limousin selling to Richard Shuttleworth, West Marton, Skipton. A large pen of heifer calves sold upto £430 for John Shuttleworth, Rylstone, Skipton and £260 for a Swedish Red from S Postlethwaite, Old Hutton, Kendal to David Graveston, Bolton by Bowland, Clitheroe.

Averages: Pedigree Newly Calved Cows £1847; Pedigree Newly Calved Heifers £1902; Heifer Calves £332.
