Texels to 2,700gns at Chelford

 

 

(01) Champion Texel.jpgLancashire breeder David Houghton topped the North West Texel Breeders Club’s show and sale at Chelford, Cheshire with a 2700gns call for a shearling gimmer from his Tophill flock.

 

By Tophill Rocket and out of a ewe by Knock Orion, the shearling took the pre-sale championship under judge David Gray of the Ettrick flock. Buyers were Ormeley Livestock, Hilton, Derbyshire.

 

Boden and Davies sold a gimmer from their Sportsmans consignment at 1050gns. By Cowal Rob Roy and out of a ewe by Ettrick Mighty Mouse, she goes to Richard Vernon at Uttoxeter.

 

Best for the ewe lambs was a 2000gns bid from mid-Wales buyer D Bennett, Meifod. He secured a lamb from William McCaffrey’s Scholars flock that was sired by Gyrhos Rambo and out of a ewe by Mellor Vale Masterpiece.

 

Shearling tups sold well reaching 1250gns for Fachell Sweetie Boy consigned from the Okehall flock of Michael Turner while Hazlehood Taylor from Richard Sowter topped the ram lambs at 920gns paid by Norfolk bidder Mr Lockhart.

 

Averages: shearling tups £655; ram lambs £404; shearling ewes £486 and ewe lambs £962. (Frank Marshall).
