Tough cull stock trade at Sedgemoor

A slightly reduced entry of 133 cull stock met a touch easier trade, which reflected the general quality on offer, when 48% of the cows forward at Sedgemoor Auction Centre were plain grade 4′s.

Best cows at previous levels peaked at 165p/kg for a lean, red Limousin from Messrs Chargot Estates.  Native cows rose to 155.5p/kg for an Angus from Mr R J F Tratt, when South Devons from Mr N A Hawkins sold well at 152p/kg and 150.5p/kg.

Better sucklers were still making 130p/kg plus. Sucklers sold to £1,340.28 for a tremendous 918kg Limousin from Mr D H and H J Churchill.  A 887kg Hereford from Messrs J F Walker achieved £1,193.02.

BLACK AND WHITES topped at 140.5p/kg for a proper British Friesian from Messrs H G Tincknell, who sold others at 133.5p/kg and 133p/kg.  131.0p/kg was bid for a Holstein Friesian from Mr P D Gooding, who sold another at 130p/kg.

Steakers made around 115p/kg and plain cows around 105p/kg.
