Record 18,000gns for Lleyn ram matched at Carlisle

A Lleyn ram has equalled the record price for the breed when selling for 18,000gns at a society sale in Carlisle,

Ballinliney Action Man scooped the record bid when selling to Hamish Goldie, Dumfries. This one was consigned by E and D Jones, Machymlleth.

 Next in the money for the rams was a 3,500gns bid for Lluest Commando from Derek Steen and selling to Farmstock Genetics, Selkirk. Farmstock Genetics also bought a Bennett sired ram from GH Blakey, Morpeth for 2,600gns. In the ram section 30 out of 144 forward sold for 1,000gns and over with an exceptional average of ÂŁ960.

The females section of the sale was topped by J A and R Geldard and Sons, Levens, when their shearling ewes sold for ÂŁ380/head to Aidan McConville, County Down. J K Goldie, Dumfriesshire sold shearling for ÂŁ350/head to the same purchaser. D N Bennett and Son, Powys sold their third prize pen for ÂŁ250/head to John Kingan, Dumfries. The Champion pen of shearlings from Lynda Jenkinson, Kirkby Stephen sold for ÂŁ190/head to T Fisher and Co, Brampton.

In the ewe lambs section the first prize pen from D N Bennett and Son sold for the section top price of ÂŁ260/head to J G Morton, Penrith. Farmstock Genetics were next to top with the second prize pen which sold for ÂŁ210/head to A G Selway, Dorset. P Knowles, Kendal sold a pen for ÂŁ158/head to C Laird, Perthshire. The third prize pen from A W Davies, Pwllheli sold for ÂŁ150/head to D Oliver, Southern Ireland.
