Stirling Bull Sales 2012: Charolais bidding hits record 100,000gns

24102012 4091.JPGThe Charolais world record was smashed earlier today when bidding climbed to the heady heights of 100,000gns.

Vexour Garth was put forward by investment banker, Jan Boomaars, Heathdown, Woldingham, Kent, and was bought on behalf of the US based Livestock Capital Company which had shown interest in the bull as a calf and keenly tracked his development.

A fitting headline price in the fiftieth anniversary year of the breed’s first introduction to the UK, the sale of Garth bypassed the previous breed record of 70,000gns. This had been set at the same event just 12 months ago for Barnsford Ferny from Tom and Sheena Gatherer, Barsford.

In fact a full brother of Ferny was also up for sale this week, but went unsold at 8,500gns.

Originally from the Netherlands, Mr Boomaars has a 125 cow Charolais herd founded on good animals and strong figures.

Speaking about Vexour Garth (pictured below) he said: “I knew there was interest, but not to that extent. He is a well balanced bull and out of a very good female line that’s done well for us.” But he said the main reason he sold well was his strong performance figures.
