6,500gns for Cairness Achievement sired ewe

Suffolk breeders from throughout Europe converged on Stirling Agricultural Centre for the dispersal of the Conveth Flock of Suffolk sheep owned by C A Proctor and Co.

The flock which was established in 1990 has enjoyed great success and was often the source of stud standard flock sires.

159 lots averaged £952.72 with 44 lots making four figured prices.

Many of the sheep were bought for export to Belgium, Holland, France and Ireland.  There was also strong support from the UK with many new breeders buying foundation stock for their flocks.  No less than 94 buyers made purchases.

Top price of the day was 6,500gns paid for a two year old ewe sired by Cairness Achievement sold in lamb to Cairton The Cracker.  She was purchased by Belgian breeder Claude Vanwijnsberge.  The same purchaser paid the second highest price of 5,000gns for a much admired 2010 born ewe also sired by Cairness Achievement.

Gimmers topped at 4,200gns for another Cairness Achievement daughter, the purchaser being M/s Davis for New Safadran flock based at Brecon, Wales.

Ewe lambs met an animated demand with a top price of 1,500gns and four making 1,300gns.

The top of 1,500gns was made by Richard Henderson, Barry House, Glenbarry , Banff for a much fancied daughter of Whitestone Footprint.

Stock rams sold to 2,800gns for Castlewood Champion a son of Cairness New Approach.  This very fleshing ram was reserve male champion at the RHAS this year and was purchased by G & I Richmond, Oakfield, Garstang, Preston.

The collective sale of in lamb females was also very well supported with 85 entries

Suffolk gimmers sold to 1400gns for a much admired daughter of Strathisla Rockefeller consigned by G J Christie, Newton of Balquhairn, Inverurie the purchase was Ross Lawrence, Netherleigh,  Devon.  Mr Christie also received the next highest price of 1000gns paid by D Park, Bowmore, Isle of Islay for a gimmer sired by Glenhead Golden Phoenix.

Charollais gimmers sold to 550gns for an entry from R & M Paterson, Upper Auchenlay purchased by Gary Wilson, Yonderfield, West Kilbride.

Zwartbles sold to 580gns for a two year old ewe form Mr & Mrs McNab of the Kypehall flock. This attractive daughter of Heaton was purchaser by R McFadzean, Gateside, Forteviot.
