Sired by Windy Knoll View Plaid, the champion has also won interbreed at the Ayr county show and placed third in her class at this year’s Royal Highland. Next stop for the winner is Dumfries show.

She calved in January and was shown giving 46kg. In her first lactation she gave 11,044kg at 4.02% fat and 3.02% protein.

Clive Norbury said the championship was led by the outstanding Holstein. It was his first time judging dairy at the Great Yorkshire Show in a 40 year-long career.

“She’s an absolutely wonderful well balanced cow with lots of dairy qualities. But she also displays lots of width, which is so important these days for longevity,” he said.

Reserve interbreed dairy went to another second calver, December 2013-born Jersey cow, Harsley Legal Weigelia.

Bred and exhibited by the Richardson family, she was sired by Tollenaars Impuls Legal and shown giving 32kg. She gave 5,817kg in her first lactation at 5.83% fat and 3.6% protein.

The Richardson’s previously won at Yorkshire in the 1970’s with their black and whites, but switched to Jersey’s two years ago.
