Knighton store cattle meet firm trade

A Limousin cross steer took the top spot in an entry of 139 store cattle at Knighton last Friday (15 August).

Top price a head was £1,365 for a 610kg Limousin x steer from T Lewis and Son, Great Castle. The same vendor also realised £1,330 for a 760kg Charolais x steer, £1,325 for a 660kg Charolais x steer, £1,305 a head for three 700kg Charolais x steers and £1,265 a head for four 720kg Charolais x steers.

It was a 370kg Limousin x steer which sold to the highest pence per kilo at 238ppk, this one from Davies Bros, Three Birches. The brothers continued with 233ppk for two 335kg Limousin x steers to £780 a head, 232ppk for a 410kg Limousin x steer to £950 and 231ppk for four 390kg Limousin x steers to £900 a head.

Store heifers sold to a top of £1,150 a head for a 740kg British Blue x heifer from J M Johnstone, New House. Next at £1,130 a head were four 660kg Charolais x heifers from T Lewis and Son, Great Castle.

Highest price a kilo was 245ppk for a 370kg British Blue x heifer to £905 from A P Davies, Blaenglyn. Next at 237ppk were five 350kg Limousin x heifers to £830 a head from Davies Bros, Three Birches.
