Berrichon rams top 3,000gns at Carlisle Multibreed sale

The Berrichon breed record was matched when rams sold to a high of 3,000gns at Borderway mart’s multi-breed sale, Carlisle, last week (29 August).

 

Top price vendor was the Woodston Manor Partnership, Lindridge, Tenbury Wells, with their homebred ram lamb Woodston Orion.

He is a single born lamb, sired by JSC 12 0033 and is out of a German import. He stood first in his class at the Three Counties Show earlier this year and won third prize at the Royal Welsh.

 

Buyer was Aled Richards, Meifod, Powys.

 

Second best with a bid of 2,500gns was the first prize ram lamb Burradon Orlando from Messrs Curry, Thropton, Morpeth. Sired by Rakefoot Lorenzo. Highest bidder was Michael Barker Farms, Richmond, North Yorkshire.

Third highest bid of 2,200gns was paid for the male and supreme champion Statesman Napoleon, bred by Tom Stayt, Chipping Norton.  He is sired by a Trgwynt Italic son and was knocked down to W Williams, Pwllheli, Gwynedd.

Females

 

Leading female trade at 1,000gns was the first prize shearling gimmer Rakefoot WJC 13 014 from Messrs Cockbain and Sons, Keswick. Sired by Criffel Lionheart she was purchased by RA Davenport, Sandbach, Cheshire.

Averages: 15 shearling rams, £651; 24 ram lambs, £777; one aged ewe, £630; 19 shearling gimmers, £431; and 11 ewe lambs, £344.59.
