Solway and Tyne Texel Breeders sale tops 2,000gns

Solway and Tyne Texel Breeders Club show and sale peaked at 2,000gns on three occasions.

Firstly consigned from Messrs Graham’s Hallrigg flock, Penrith, Cumbria, was ram lamb Hallrigg Vladimir. Sired by Sportsmans Tremendous II and out of a Allanfauld Rockafella sired dam, purchaser was J Gray, Alnwick, Northumberland.

Next was Teiglum Vogue from Messrs Clark Farms, Carluke, Lancashire. Out of a Strathbogie Smokey Blue sired dam and by Springwell Ulsterboy. This second prized ram lamb, also at 2,000gns, went home with Boden and Davies, Stockport, Cheshire.

Joint 2,000gns top priced Teiglum Vogue

James Hair’s Drumbreddan ram lamb took the last top price of the sale. From Stranraer, Dumfries and Galloway, sired by Knock Thrasos Hak and out of a Drumbreddan Samba Daner sired dam, he went home to Dounganhill Farms, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire for 2,000gns.

Following on at 1,800gns was a Greenwood ram lamb. Consigned by Messrs Barrow, Wigton, Cumbria, he went home with G Pyman, Penrith, Cumbria.

The Boden and Davies Sportsman flock, Stockport, Cheshire took the top two prices for its shearling gimmers. A homebred Sportsmans shearling gimmer sired by Mellor Vale Officer and out of a Baltier Panther sired dam, took the top spot, selling to H Smith, Carlisle, Cumbria for 1,600gns.

Second priced female at 1,300gns went to another Sportsmans shearling gimmer. Sired by Milnbank Times Square and out of a Milnbank Special One daughter, she sold to K Irving, Gretna Dumfriesshire.

First prize and reserve overall champion went to Ryan Bradley’s shearling gimmer, who sold to J and S Wilkinson, Richmond, North Yorkshire for 800gns.

Averages: 34 shearling rams, £534.26; 145 ram lambs, £429.81; 1 aged ram, £1680; 46 shearling gimmers, £417.72.
