New record of 2,000gns set for in-lamb Zwartble ewe

The Zwartbles Society’s show and sale at Carlisle saw a new breed record of 2,000gns set for an in-lamb ewe.

Record setter was shearling ewe from John Thornburn, Eastriggs, Dumfries. Sired by Marton Winston she sold in-lamb with a single to H Pritchard, Rochester, Newcastle upon Tyne.

Two lots made 1,400gns. First was a shearling ewe from TR Birkbeck, Kirby Stephen, Cumbria. Sired by East Middle War Artists this one is out of a Tombob dam and sold to MJ Cornish, Buckfastleigh, Devon.

MJ Cornish also paid the same money for the ewe lamb Millburn Blaze, sired by Millburn Sam, from John Bell, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire.

Following this was a bid of 700gns for the ewe lamb Joyfield Bramble from Joyce Millar, Lockerbie, Dumfries. This one is also sired by Millburn Sam and is out of a Cynefin-sired dam.

Averages: Three ewes, £325.50; 27 shearling ewes, £503.61; 52 ewe lambs, £308.54.
