New season Charollais-x lambs hit 454.5p/kg

Dingwall and Highland Marts sold 1,014 prime sheep at its Christmas Show and Sale on Tuesday (25 November).

The champion pen of three lambs and first prize pen of Charollais cross lambs from Conon Brae Farms, Torgorm, Conon Bridge, sold at ÂŁ200 (454.5p/kg) for a pen of homebred 44kg Charollais crosses, to Fraser Brother Butchers. The reserve champion pen of lambs and first prize pen of Beltex lambs from Messrs J Scott, Fearn Farm, Tain, sold at ÂŁ90 (240p/kg) to Messrs John M Munro, Butchers, Dingwall.

Also from the champion winning vendor came the first prize pen of Texel cross lambs at £90. Next at £84 were the first prize pen of Cheviot lambs from Messrs S and M Mackenzie, Auchmore. Torgorm also sold the best pen of Suffolk cross lambs for £79, While Mr J Ross’ top Blackface pen from Rosskill, Munlochy realized £76.

Averages: 878 new season lambs, 171.2p/kg (+6.6p/kg) and sold to 454.5p/kg and ÂŁ200 gross; 711 SQQ 36.5kg to 45.5kg, 174.2p/kg (+3.6p/kg); 136 feeding sheep, ÂŁ118 gross.
