Sedgemoor winter warmer sale peaks at 4,400gns

The winter warmer dairy sale at Sedgemoor peaked at 4,400gns for a consignment from Sahara Holsteins, Monmouthshire.

Sahara Supersonic Jennie is sired by Misty Springs Supersonic and is out of the VG89 Jeeves daughter Hood ATM Jessica, who gave 10,421kgs at 4.40% fat and 3.11% protein in her last lactation.

Her half sister Sahara Supersire Jessica made 15,000gns at the Holstein Genetic Elite sale last year.

She was knocked down to Kingstonmagna Holsteins.

Next best at 2,150gns was Rookhaye Glen Unwin from xxx. By Glen-Valley BW Captain she is out of the Ladino Park Talent daughter Rookhaye Talent Uwin VG88 and sold to an undisclosed buyer from Carmarthen.

A large consignment from David and Valerie Norman’s Ciderhouse herd produced a top call of 1,980gns for a calved heifer. Their consignment of cows sold to 1,980gns and a Doorman Tammy four-week-old heifer calf at 500gns.

Cows were an easier trade on the day topping at 1,780gns for the second calver Bettiscombe Leif Linnet from Roland and Simon Bugler.

A large entry of in-calf heifers met a good trade compared to the fresh milk selling to 1,480gns for a Coldsprings Prentice daughter due to calve from RJ Turner and Son of West Sussex.

Bulling heifers from the Buddleford Partnership sold to 900gns three times for commercial heifers by England-Ammon Million, Solid-Gold Colby and Regan-ALH Derren. Yearling heifers from the same Vendor sold to 680gns twice,

Bulls from John Young Farms Ltd of Monmouthshire sold to 1,000gns for Lanover Gypsy Duke.
