2,300 guinea top at Yattendon dispersal

The dispersal sale of Frilsham Dairy’s Holstein Friesian herd at Yattendon, Berkshire drew a large crowd, topping at 2,300gns.

Sale leader, a second calver was knocked down to Thomas Plas, Carmarthenshire.

Two more second calvers both realised 2,200gns each. The first being purchased by P Walker, Pewsey, Wiltshire, and the other by C M Pugh, Kempley, Gloucestershire, who also paid 2,100gns for another second calver.

Two other second calvers made 2,100gns, one being purchased by Birdcombe, Carmarthenshire, and the other by Oncoland, Longfield, Kent.

The 376 cattle were sold individually with the principal buyer, Baltier Farming, Newton Stewart, Scotland, acquiring 34 cattle.

For the last three years the herd had been totally flying with over three quarters of the herd having been imported as heifers from northern Germany.

The all year round calving herd was giving an annual yield of 11,000 litres a cow, producing an average daily yield of 38 litres.

Average: 376 cows, £1,434.60
