Simmental bulls achieve 12,000gns top at Stirling Bull Sales 2015
Simmental bulls saw a top call of 12,000gns twice when bulls went under the hammer at Stirling on Monday (16 Feb).
Overall 129 bulls sold to an average of £4,964 with 80% clearance – the highest for all the breeds at Stirling for these spring sales so far.
Breed society secretary Neil Shand said he was delighted with the clearance rate, adding:
“It was a very commercially driven trade with a lot of people bidding to a budget because money is a little tight at the moment.
Despite this Mr Shand said 10 more bulls were sold on the year and many new customers were at the sale, attracted by the high health status of the breed.
Two bulls shared the top price of 12,000gns. First of these was the second-prize bull Corskie Elgin 13 from Iain Green, Fochabers. Sired by the Starline Klassik son Greencap Ace 09, who was purchased privately, he is out of the Popes Laird daughter Corskie Amaryllis. He sold to GL Clark, Cupar, Fife, carrying a TSI of +102 and an SRI of +99.
At the same money was the overall and junior champion Derrycallaghan Ernest 13 from Mr H Stubbs and AA Burleigh, Crummy, Ballindarragh.
Sired by the prolific Kilbride Farm Newry he is out of the Raceview King daughter Derrycallaghan Beauty, whose dam is a Corskie cow. He was the pick of the judge Michael Barlow, Leyland.
Following this at 10,500gns was the second prize Woodhall Enfield, from H MacAskill, Innerwick, Dunbar.
Sired by the Raceview King son Raceview All-Star he is out of the Corrick Kentucky daughter Woodhall Angela and carries a TSI of +113 and an SRI of +120. Buyer was A and D Clark, Orkney.
Three bulls made 10,000gns. First of these to go under the hammer was another Corskie consignment; the senior champion Corskie Envoy 13. Sired by the Royal Highland 2014 champion Dirnanean Bradley he is out of the Kilbride Farm Tarrant daughter Corskie Adorable and carries a TSI of +105 and SRI of +116. Buyer was I Wilson, Torphins, Aberdeenshire.
Next at 10,000gns was the first prize winner Kilbride Farm Emperor 13 from WH Robson and Sons, Doagh, Ballyclare.
Born in August 2013 he is sired by the Kilbride Farm Newry son Kilbride Farm Warren and is out of the Cairnview Snazzy daughter Kilbride Farm Eunice. Buyer was Messrs Wood, Orkney.
The final 10,000gns bid went to Wolfstar Elusive 13 from A King, Ormiston, Tranent.
Sired by Team Celtic he is out of the Starline Klassik daughter Wolfstar Tequila and was the pick of WS Stronach and partners, Keith, Banffshire.
Just shy of this at 9,500gns was the reserve intermediate champion Drumlone Engineer 12 from KC Veitch, Drumlone, Lisbellaw.
This one is sired by Omorga Murray and is out of the Milton Lord Tiffany daughter Brookwood Pretty-Polly. Buyer was J Innes and Sons, Huntly, Aberdeenshire.
Two bulls made 9,000gns. First of these to go under the hammer was Fordoun’s GW Smith’s Drumsleed Exodus 13.
Sired by Grangewood William he is out of a homebred dam and was purchased by WA Galloway and Son, Newton Stewart, Wigtonshire.
Following him at the same money was Owenskerry Excellent 13, consigned by BJ, L and C Cowan, Fivemiletown. Sired by Omorga Volvo he is out of a homebred dam. He was bought by L Forster and Son, Hexham, Northumberland.
At 8,800gns was the reserve senior champion Dirnanean Eskimo 13 from FJA McGowan, Alyth, Blairgowrie.
This polled Dirnanwan Salvador son was crowned the champion at Perth Show and is out of a homebred dam by Halenook Panache.
Buyer was Guy Van Der Gucht, Appeley, Gloucestershire.
Females
Prices for females topped at 5,400gns for the first lot into the ring, from MA Barlow.
The April 2011-born Ashland Tornado daughter Denzies Melody 12th sold to S Keen, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, due to calve in June.
Next best at 3,600gns was the female champion Ballinalare Farm Ellie, born in June 2013 and sired by Auchorachan Wizard. Consigned by J Wilson, Newry. She headed back to Ireland with R Rodgers, Ballymena, Co Antrim.
Averages: 129 bulls, £4,984; 80% clearance (2014: 119 bulls, £5,267; 83% clearance).
