2,700gns high at Sedgemoor spring fever dairy sale

The annual Spring Fever Dairy Sale at Sedgemoor Auction saw strong bids for good quality cows and heifers and a high of 2,700gns, despite a dip in demand for fresh milkers.

Leading trade was the freshly calved Red and White heifer Penrikka Benjamin Frances Red from Sophie Morgan. The December 2012 born March calved heifer is by the Misty Springs Benjamin Red sire.
Well-bred cows from CJ and SE Elmes sold to 1,750gns for the second calver Swallowdale Golden Bluebell 156th out of four generations of VG and Excellent dams. Minister Dainty 84th from the same herd sold for 1,720gns.

First time consigners AF, VA and NA Maynard, Awliscombe sold commercial heifers to 1,600gns.
The 14-month-old bull Dorset Oreo from Dimond Farming and by Gillette Windbrook made 1,400gns.
Also at 1,400gns was the red and white incalf heifer Monckhaven Attitude Liberty Red due May. She headed home with MJ and JR Monkton.

The dispersal consignment from Cole Farming of heifers due June/July by Cogent Azure also sold to 1,400gns.

The dispersal sale for RN and LA Bell was well supported with March calved cows selling to 1,600gns and the 39 cows forward from this non-recorded herd averaging ÂŁ1202.65.
