Aberdeen Angus cattle sell to 2,850gns at Worcester

The Inaugural Southern Aberdeen Angus Society show and sale at Worcester last week (17 April) saw a top call of 3,500gns.

Sale leader was Oakchurch Digger, an 18 month old Blelack Blackrod son out of the homebred cow Oakchurch Dolly, from Jeremy Price’s Herefordshire based herd.  He was secured by JE Pudge, Bishops Frome, Worcestershire, having won junior and reserve male champion in the pre-sale show.

The second placed bull Eckington Edmundo from Mrs Judy Gardner’s herd, local to Worcester, enjoyed a spirited following and was knocked down to Rand Contracting, Royston, Herts at 2,850gns.

Senior bulls sold up to 2,000gns for Dark Lane Ernie from NJ Pittams. Ernie won male and overall champion and was taken by GR Needham, Kinver, Worcestershire.

Females were hotly contested peaking at 1,920gns for the reserve female champion, the maiden heifer Inkpen Pretty Pieris from M Kary. She was the pick of T Wolfe, Stevenage, Herts.

The Inkpen prefix enjoyed a close following throughout with another maiden heifer Miss Belle – which won female and overall reserve champion – selling for 1,680gns to AW Burn, Ellesmere, Shropshire. Mr Burn also bought her stablemate Inkpen Evanita at 1,400gns.

Averages: cows and calves, £1,018.50; maiden heifers, £1,264.20; bulls, £2,716.87.
