Great Yorkshire Show 2015: Dairy Interbreed
In the dairy ring judge Bernard Liddle, Northallerton, North Yorkshire, tapped out the Holstein Mikali Seaver D Erle, to make it Cumbrian exhibitor David Wright’s first ever interbreed championship win at the Great Yorkshire.
She was bought by Mr Wright as a heifer calf from the genetic sale for 2,400gns from David Coombes. Sired by R-E-W Seaver and out of Mikali Damian Erle, she calved with her second on 1st March and is currently giving 54kgs daily. She won her class as a heifer at the UK Dairy Expo and UK Dairy Day last year.
Taking the reserve spot was the champion Dairy Shorthorn Churchroyd Peggy 19 from Mary and Ian Collins, Dewsbury, West Yorkshire.
This Nejay Prince 4 daughter is out of a homebred dam. She followed in the footsteps of her granddam to secure the family’s eighth breed title under the showmanship of Ian’s sister Wendy Young. She won champion at the National Dairy Shorthorn Show, at Cheshire County Show, in 2014 and 2015.
She calved for a second time with twins three weeks ago and is currently giving 42kgs daily.
Commenting on his decision Mr Liddle, who used to manage the Daleshead herd before it was dispersed in 2011 and made history at the show becoming the first Yorkshireman to ever judge the supreme dairy class, said the Holstein was a “super” dairy animal.
He added: “She’s very milky. I gave her the advantage over the Shorthorn because of her dairyness.”
