Great Yorkshire Show 2015: Sheep interbreed results

British Charollais Rhaeadr Nock, owned by Charles Marwood from North Yorkshire, won the supreme sheep championship.

Mr Marwood bought the two-shear ram, sired by Ballyhibben Klass Act and bred by Myfyr Evans, as a lamb at Worcester Premier Sale for 4,000gns.

It is Rhaeadr Nock’s first outing this year but he will also compete at the Driffield Show next week.

Mr Marwood, who has a 500 ewe pedigree flock, won the first supreme championship at the Great Yorkshire in 2000 with a shearling ewe.

Judge Jim Aiken said the winner was a “well balanced sheep, well fleshed and good on his legs”.  Mr Aiken, who runs a pedigree flock of Texel, Beltex, Charollais and Border Leicesters at home in County Down, gave the reserve title to the Longwool breed champion Nosterfield Lulu 2. “[The reserve] has great character and beautiful wool, although the winner is a better mover and just has a bit more character for me,” said Mr Aiken.

Nosterfield Lulu 2 is owned by Wensleydale pedigree breeder Ernie Sherwin who also has a flock of Suffolk crosses at home in Nosterfield near Bedale.

The homebred yearling born in March 2014 is out of Nosterfield Lulu, who was named reserve supreme sheep champion at the Great Yorkshire Show in 2013, and is sired by West End Gerard.

It was Lulu 2’s first time out this year but she will now head to Ryedale Show to compete next week.
