UK Dairy Day: Holstein championship

Clinching his first ever championship at the UK Dairy Day was David Wright, from Kendal, Cumbria, with his homebred Holstein Berryholme Infloence Linda 3. Born in September 2007 she is sired by the Wright’s stock bull Berryholme Infloence and is out of Berryholme Jed Linda 2. She won reserve breed champion at the Great Yorkshire earlier this year and came second at Agriscot as a four-year-old. She calved in March and is currently giving 52litres/day.

Judge Nico Bons said she was the best cow of this show because she had the total package. of her high udder with lots of veination. “She is well balanced with an amazing udder that is higher and shows more venation with better attachment to the body wall. She is also using her feet and legs more easily.”

Tapping out another from RA Bowns, Mr Bons chose Richaven Goldwyn Squaw 6 VG 89 as his reserve supreme champion on this her second ever outing. Bred and shown by Richard Bown, Worcestershire. This second calver is giving 43kg a day at 4.24% butterfat and 3.28% protein. Sired by Braedale Goldwyn and out of Richaven Shottle Squaw, she also won the supreme championship at Dairy Expo on her first ever outing earlier this year.
