Woodies flock leads Borderway Beltex sale

Beltex and Dutch Texel sheep sold to a high of 4,400gns at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, last week (28 August).

Stuart Wood’s Woodies flock, Skene, Aberdeenshire, dominated the day’s proceedings, with his shearling gimmer Woodies Winning Streak, by the 9,000gns Padkin Sugar Daddy and out of a dam by the famous Crocodile ram, selling for the day’s top price to Henry Jewitt, Barnard Castle, Co.Durham.

Next best when selling for 4,000gns was Woodies Worthy, by The Godfather and again out of a Crocodile daughter. Buyer was AJ Wood, Preston, Lancashire.

Best from Dan Towers’ Curwen Hill Beltex pen was a 2,900gns bid paid by AJ Wood for the shearling gimmer Curwen Hill W041. Sired by Wonderboy she is out of Jahna Van’t Brakelbos.

John Metcalfe, Armathwaite, Cumbria, earned a top call of 1,050gns for his Beltex shearling gimmer Edenfauld Well Connected, sired by Brownville Samson and out of a homebred ewe. Buyer was Sara and Steve Gibbons, Tregoyd, Brecon.

His second best price of 1,000gns was paid by TP Wigham, Haltwhistle, Northumberland, for a J Pundyk 2 00254-02833(2) sired Dutch Texel ewe out of a dam by Turbo Navigator RJR071192(1).

Sunnybank Blue Texel sale

Later in the day Henry Jewitt recouped his spend when he sold a proportion of Blue Texel females and rams from his Sunnybank flock.

Trade topped 950gns twice. First at this money was the shearling gimmer Sunnybank Xylophone sired by Beili Blues (BBD/12/00566) and out of a pure Dutch ewe bred by DL and BWH Jones.  Buyer was G and H Forsyth, Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire.

At the same money was the ewe lamb Sunnybank Yoshiko sired by Hackney Xcel and out of the prize winning Sunnybank Top Secret who is sired by Kreuze. Successful bidder was MJ Davies, Caersws, Powys.
