Oakchurch heifers lead Worcester Angus sale at 4,000gns

Females dominated trade at the Aberdeen Angus spring show and sale at Worcester on Friday (15 April) on a day of “strong and competitive” bidding for quality cattle.

Taking the limelight was Herefordshire-bred Oakchurch Donna R221 from J & A Price, Staunton-on-Wye, a Te Mania Berkley B1 daughter out of Netherallen Peter Penshore E052, which sold for 4000gns to KAR Scott, Turriff, Aberdeenshire.

This April 2015 ET-bred relation to Ballyheather Dolly Z682 brings a terminal sire index of +48 and a self replacing index of +63 and was the first of several keenly sought Oakchurch heifers on the day.

Next at 3,300gns was the in-calf Oakchurch Donna P180, selling to JE Pudge, Bishops Frome, Worcestershire. This April 2015-born red ticket winner Blelack Blackrod L774 daughter is out of Te Mania Berkley B1 daughter Oakchurch Donna N120 and is sired by Oakchurch Evor.

Third highest on the day at 2,500gns was another Blackrod daughter out of oakchurch Duchess J123, Oakchurch Duchess R212, knocking down to P & K Westaway, Melview Farming.

Next best was Oakchurch Dalrene R204 at 2200gns, seeing KAR Scott return to the bidding, followed by Oakchurch Frances R209, snapped up by R Tudor, Welshpool, for 2,100gns.

Reserve female champion Morpheus Jodie R023 made 1,750gns from O Tunney, Cuddington, Cheshire, joining the Temple herd of A and J Denning, Bridgewater, Somerset. The ET-bred April, 2015 born heifer is out of Duncanziemere and by Triara Slam Dunk.

Bulls

Males topped at 3,900gns with reserve male and reserve overall champion Oakchurch Dracula R215, again bred by Jeremy and Ala Price. This Blelack Blackrod L774 son is out of Oakchurch Dame M093, a Te Mania Berkley B1 daughter and boasts a terminal sire index of +39, which attracted the attention of buyer R Tudor.

Trade then twice hit 3,300gns, first for senior sire Glympton To Bee M636 from F McDaid, bred by Glympton Farms, knocking down to J Biggs, Pembrokeshire. Out of Stevenson Royce 741C daughter Coldstream Tidy Bee 55k, this Sitz Upward 307R son brings a self replacing index of +56.

Another Blackrod son, Oakchurch Dreadnought P186, then matched this money, selling to R Thatcher, Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. This Oakchurch Damara L063 son was male and overall champion.
