Ruby Red Devons sell to £2,250 at Sedgemoor

The Dispersal Sale of LF & RC Hector’s Ruby Red Devon herd achieved a top price of £2,250.

The cow and calf trade was on fire with notably two new West Country breeders battling it out for the best.

More than a quarter of the day’s entry realised over £1,500. Selling to the day’s top price was Stathe Plum (F2) out of Oxfordshire breeders PJ Florey and Sons’ Northmoors Plum 10th. She sold to Devon breeders the Ellacott Brothers with her steer calf at foot.

Next best at £1,850 was Northmoors Bright Eyes (F2), who had an April born heifer calf at foot by stock bull Knowstone Masterpiece VG84. She sold to the same purchaser.

New breeder Sally Salter from Frome in Somerset secured Essington Buttercup 166th for £1,850, complete with her March-born heifer calf.

The recently served heifers sold to £880 on several occasions. Yearling heifers attracted national interest selling to £630 on three occasions, with eight travelling up into North Wales.

The sale included 27 of last year’s steer calves and drew demand throughout the West Country and sold to £700.
