Keeping up with the USA

Catching up with the main news from across the pond is pretty simple these days, but how do you source specialist information, such as the latest news from the USA beef industry?

Well hopefully this site, The Beef Blog, will help all of us with an interest in beef farming across the world. Regularly updated with all the latest technical and other news, it provides a good insight into how the other half live.

Admittedly there's nothing groundbreaking there, but there's plenty to keep you interested

Notts debut success at Skipton pedigree Limousin show

A first-ever visit to Skipton Auction Mart by Nottinghamshire-based Limousin cattle breeders Barry and Jill Heald and their son Matthew paid rich dividends when the family landed championship spoils at Skipton's annual "Red Pedigree Event."

The Healds, from Home Farm, Grove, Retford, saw their 20-month-old home-bred bull Coachhouse Agreeable awarded the title by show judge Stephen Wilde, of Bradfield, Sheffield, who runs the Ewden Vale herd of pedigree Limousins.

Agreeable is by Fedneyhouse Nelson, out of Coachhouse Sillhouette, herself a product of Haltcliffe Picasso, the Heald's main stock bull, who won the East Midlands Limousin Breeders Best Stock Bull and Progeny 2006. Agreeable went on to sell for 2400gns to a North Yorkshire purchaser.

Farmers have the right answer

Due to the fact foot and mouth restrictions have meant I'm not populating this blog with many show and sale reports at the moment, I thought I would bring you a funny pic to brighten up your day.

Although i'm sure one user (courtesy of H&H, Carlisle), will know where this has come from!!

I think the guy in questions has got it just about right though!!

Beef Blog - the States way

Just signed up to this really interesting blog in America and thought it might be worth a look.

The beef blog has everything you need to know about beef production in the States from feeding, vaccinating, DNA testing, cow ID and cow health and disease. There's some great articles on there, definately worth checking out.
