In the male championship, the top title has gone to Rigel Hotspur from Messrs Pye.
He is a Casimir daughter out of Rigel Horizon. In reserve was Drumaglea Yeoman - a Sancy son, out of Drumaglea Pearl and put forward by Mr P Boyd.

Only one of the three British Blue bulls on offer, secured a sale at Stirling, with champion Tamhorn Friar Et (Lot 471) going for 4,500gns to Mr Gordon from Achnahannet, near Grantown on Spey. This one was put forward by D & J Wyllie from Tamworth. It is a son of Ballgrange Alex and out of Tamhorn Wee Daisy, and boasts a British Blue pedigree breeding index of +14 and a British Blue caracse yield index of +14.
Reserve champion Headlind Eyecatcher (Lot 467) from T Allan Jackson went unsold at 1,600gns, and Harestone Freddy Et (Lot 470) from Neil R Barclay was also unsold at 1,800gns.
Salers female sales went along a similar route with only one of the five on offer securing a sale in the show ring. The top price went to Rigel Elise (Lot 504) from Messrs Pye, which sold for 2,200gns to Mr Murphy at Craigiedaff, Kincardineshire. This one is a daughter of Rigel Othello and out of Rigel Elizabeth.
The outlook was slightly better for the Salers bulls with four of the nine on offer securing new owners in the sales ring.
The top price went to MacKenzie's champion bull Whitebog Ensign (Lot 453), which sold for 6,800gns to McConchie from Mains of Penninghame, Newton Stewart. This one is a son of Uni and out of Whitebog Laura.
The reserve, Drumsleed Blaze (Lot 455) from G & M Smith went for 3,600gns to Mr Murphy from Craigiedaff, Kincardineshire. This one is a son of Poldean Umbro and out of Rigel Colleen.

In the Aberdeen-Angus classes it was the turn of a nine-year old cow to take the championship, with Whittaker Farms' 2002-born cow Rosemount Justine Erica taking the championship. She was also interbreed champion at Northumberland and is by Heath House Plato and out of Rosemount Justine Erica. Reserve to her was Ballathie Estates' bull Luddenmore Mr Edition, a Hoff Limited Edition son.
Champion in the Galloway lines was 2003-born cow Blackcraig Noreen L122 from J and A Finlay. She's by Diamond B Knockout 1 and out of Blackcraig Noreen D2. I've not news of the reserve here, but will investigate it ASAP.

Another from the same home then sold for 1900gns. This was Oaklands Dulcimer, an Umaga daughter. Sold with a bull calf at foot she also went to Park Organic Farm.

Then at 4000gns was another from the same home, Rigel Talbot. He is by Casimir, a record priced French sire, and is out of Rigel Tallulah, a Mosstock Intouch daughter. He went to J and A Dunlop, Maybole, Ayrshire.

Salers breeders saw trade reach a peak of 4000gns, with this
bid securing Rigel Darwin from the Pye family. This one is by Amazonien and out
of Rigel Dionyza, a Crocodile Dundee daughter.
The champion from the pre-sale show Whitebog Exotic then sold at 3600gns. This Bijou daughter out of Whitebig Trixy, a Lascar daughter sold to A Howatson, Newton Stewart.
Selling for 3500gns was Dukesfield Hercules from A G and D Bisset. This is a son of Sagitaire out of Rigel Hera 2, a Rigel Verona daughter.
Then going away at 3400gns was Dukesfield Cannon from the same home. This is by Casimir and out of Rigel Carla, a Sagitaire daughter. He was bought by Mr Austin, Castle Douglas.
Making 3200gns was Callander Fred from David Shepherd. This is by Rigel Julius Poll and out of Cumbrian Fortune 40, a Cumbrian Thunderbird daughter. This one sold to Neil Caul.
At 2800gns was Seawell Elusive from Peter Donger, this
Trafalgar son is out of Tamise, an Ocean daughter.

Starting with the Beef Shorthorns, my first pick is Tofts Harlequin (lot 269), a Chapelton Promoter son out of Tofts Holly, a Belmore Uptown daughter. He comes with a TSI of +16 and an SRI of +14.
Then I've marked out Alvie Connor (lot 271), a Hurtiso Young Blood son out of Cairnsmore Your Lovely Maggie, a Fearn Scotsman daughter. He was junior champion at the Highland last year and has a TSI of +13 and an SRI of +12.
After that it is on to Tamhorn Crusader (lot 274). This is by Trunley Barley and out of Cairnsmore Whitney, a Cairnsmore Nike Sportsman daughter. He has a TSI of +17 and an SRI of +16.
Following that is Glenisla Clansman (lot 278). He is by Glenisla Zambezi and out of Glenisla Sally Broadhooks S105, a Glenisla Noble daughter. This one trades with a TSI of +15 and an impressive SRI of +22.

Last Friday's multibreed beef sale at Carlisle saw South Devons top at 4200gns for Lumbylaw Magnus 21, a March 2008-born son of Enterprise Condor from A R Lee. Condor is out of Lumbylaw Mary 17, a Trewint Jubilee Junior 7 daughter and sold with a quality beef index of +18 to A P and P E Greenshields, Houghton-Le-Spring, Tyne and Wear.
In the South Devon females the top price was a 2100gns sale for Edoracum Abigail from J P Harrison. This Goffe Cave Starbuster daughter sold with her bull calf at foot by Brafferton
Hadrian 1. She sold to I D and J D Howard, Bradbury, Ashbourne.
BEEF SHORTHORN
In the Beef Shorthorn sale the top priced bull was Annanwater Blair from Andrew Ryder at 3700gns. This Newfield Tarquin son is out of Llanwarth Rose, a Chapelton Nobility daughter. Buying this one was A Greenwood, Colne, Lancashire.
Then at 3500gns was Ballyart Legend from Owen O'Neil. This is by Kilfrush Vantage 7 and out of Glenbally Aran, a Tierlaheen Conor daughter. He was bought by M J A Ward Daughters, Harwood Dale, Scarborough.
Top female call in the Shorthorns was a 2500gns bid for Lowther Magic from Charles Lowther. This Uppermill Sherlock daughter is out of Dunsyre Magic 3 and sold with a TSI of +14 and an SRI of +12 to J Allinson Farms, Appleton Le Moors.
And making 2400gns was Sandwick Celtic, a Redhill Xmoor daughter out of Ballard Park Royalty. This one, with a TSI of +16 and an SRI of +14 sold to Thomson Roddick and Laurie, Shawhill, Annan,.
HEREFORDS
Best among the Hereford bulls on sale was a 2300gns bid for Amberfield 1 Enhancer, a Hillrow 1 Wrestler son out of Amberfield 1 Brunette 21, a Ridgeway 1 Gilbert daughter. He sold to the University of Glasgow.
In the Hereford females a top price of 2600gns was achieved for Romany 1 Ishbel, a Romany 1 Asteroid daughter out of Romany 1 Ishbel, a Crickley 1 Figurehead daughter. Selling with a TSI of +27 and and SRI of +32, she was bought by Mark Patterson, Auchinleck, Ayrshire.
Then at 1850gns was Romany 1 Dawn. Sired by Romany 1 Asteroid and out of Romany 1 Dawn, another by the Crickley 1 Figurehead sire, she sold with a TSI of +16 and an SRI of +20 to N Patterson, Galston.
Salers
Best bid in the Salers was a 4600gns call for Whitebog Dave, a July 2008-born son of Whitebog Vinnie out of Whitebog Tara, a Lascar daughter. He sold to W and A M Aitken, Peebles.

Taking top spot in the Simmental classes here at Balmoral was David Hazelton with his heifer Ranfurly Weikel 3, this is by Hillcrest Champion out of South Park King Kong Weikel 2.
Reserve to her was Harold Stubbs' bull Derrycallaghan Alan, an Omorga Regan son out of Derrycallaghan Top Girl.
In the Charolais it was a one:two for Gilbert Crawford. Top honours went to his heifer Coolnaslee Diane, an Allanfauld Superscot daughter out of Coolnaslee Pearl, while reserve was his 2007-born heifer with calf at foot Coolnaslee Countess. This is by Superscot and out of Coolnaslee Trella.
Taking top honours in the Salers was Blason a 2006-born bull from J and E A Elliot. This imported bull is by Ulsan and out of Ophelie. Reserve was George McCall with his heifer Carrick View Etiole. This is by Columbo and out of Rouselle.
Blonde champion was Hillhead Dandy from the Rodgers family. This bull is by Hillhead Clint and out of Hillhead Allison.
Reserve honours were taken by Ivaniskey Blondes with Ivaniskey Dot Com, a Doncombe Aga Khan daughter out of Fairlough Amy.
Then in the Herefords the champion was Solpoll 1 Dynamite from the McCordies, he is by Udel 1 Vindicator and out of Sollpoll 1 Dainty. Reserve here was David Wilson with his bull Lisrace Lumberjack, a Glaslough Captain son out of Drumakeenan Prettymaid.

Solid trade was seen at yesterdays Salers Cattle Society sale in Welshpool, which saw prices top 4000gns.
Placing the day's top bid were mother and son team Shirley and Jon Sims, Ambergate, Derbyshire for the reserve male champion, the black bull, Rigel Oregon Poll. This two-year-old by
Messrs Pye saw a successful day when just minutes earlier they sold their male and overall pre-sale show champion, Rigel Pelham, another Sagitaire son, at 2,500gns to Barrow Farms, Broseley,
Next in the money was Aled Jenkins, Ffostrasol, Llandysul, Ceredigion who sold two bulls at 2000gns apiece. First was Coland Bob going to J Vaughan, Llanerfyl, Welshpool; then his Mock Bleddyn sold to W J Jenkins, Taliesin, Machynlleth.
Overall female and reserve overall show champion was the cow, Felin Cerys with her heifer calf at foot from the Society's vice-chairman, Harri Pritchard and his wife, Sioned of Llangybi, Pwllheli. By Armstrong out of
A strong demand was particularly seen for maiden heifers, with a string of maiden heifers from Messrs Pritchard's day selling from 800gns to 1,000gns and averaging £958. Their top sale was of Felin Enfys going at 1,000gns to J James, Borth.

Topping trade for Saler females and matching a strong trade earlier for the bulls on offer was the champion Rigel Isis, a Sagitaire daughter out of a Crocodile Dundee daughter Rigel Ino. This one went at 3300gns.
They also sold Rigel Hosta, an Amazonien daughter out of Rigel Hostess, for 2300gns.

Leading the way for Saler bulls so far is the champion Saler from Alister Mackenzie, Whitebog Dunc, by Uni out of a Nixon-bred dam. This one went at 4200gns.
Before that a call of 3000gns secured Beeston Hall Beau from Beeston Hall Farms. This one is by Poldean Taffy out of a Rigel Iago daughter.
Previous to that, the first Saler in the ring and the reserve champion Rigel Haldor, by Sagitaire, went at 2700gns.
And just as we thought that was it, Alister Mackenzie then sold his second prize bull Whitebog Drew, a Uni bred bull for 4700gns to Mr Gillanders.
