Limousin a real buyer favourite

THE seemingly continuous flow of pedigree Limousin cattle on to the market still draws enthusiastic buyers and last weeks "three-herd" sale was no exception.

There was almost total clearance with the sales high note coming from the Brackenbank herd dispersal. Breeder Peter Cummings from Carnforth, Lancs, offered the stock bull Frankstown Jericho that led the trade at 3400gns. By Broadmeadows Cannon, he was bought by local farmers TR and EA Millburn. Mr Cummings son, also Peter, is continuing with the prefix and has retained a nucleus of females.

Brackenbanks takings were boosted with a 3000gns call from Alun Roberts, Betws-y-Coed, North Wales, to claim the six-year-old cow Brackenbank Jackie offered with her four-month-old bull calf. Shes by Ronick Gains and is one of the biggest cows in the herd with a Beef Value of 32.

The day included the sixth annual production sale of young cows and calves from the Loodal herd of breeder Anthony Watchorn, from Oakham, Leics. His best was 1100gns given by Harold Isherwood, of Bacup, Lancs, for the three-year-old Loodal Nemesis.

Shes out of one of the herds most successful cows, Budgate Vicky, and was sold with her heifer calf by Globe. Young bulls from Andy Hollidays Eden herd at Penrith included Eden Philip, sold to RH Cocil, Isle of Man at 2700gns. (Harrison and Hetherington). &#42
