Welshpool Beltex in-lamb ewes peak at 720gns

Beltex met a solid trade peaking at 720gns at the breed society’s Welsh premier sale of in-lamb aged and yearling ewes at Welshpool on Monday.

Leading the trade at 720gns was the champion, Wern Roxy, a yearling by Hunter Bay and out of a homebred ewe. Bred and sold by Gwion Morgan, Sir Ddinbych, Denbighshire, she was knocked down sold to S Jones, Penant, Ceredigion.

DSC_4111 Champion Lot 2035.jpg The same breeder followed with Wern Rhianwen at 550gns. Rhianwen, a yearling by Headlind Dynamic and out of a Southholm ewe, sold to M T Davies and Sons, Llanelli, Carmarthenshire.

Messrs Davies continued their purchases with the yearling Cennen Ripple at 560gns. Ripple, bred and sold by G J and R A Williams, Llangadog, Carmarthenshire, was by Llwynbrain Lawyer and out of a homebred ewe. The same breeders reinvested some of their income in Sundey Ribena at 520gns, a yearling from Gwion Morgan and bred by Jilly McAree, Ledbury, Herefordshire. She was by Whatmore Nugget and out of Sundey Julep.

Bids of 500gns were made four times. First Gwion Morgan sold another Jilly McAree bred yearling, Sundey Rise n Shine, by Whatmore Nugget and out of Sundey Natalie for 500gns to T E Davies, Caersws, Powys. He also took 500gns for the reserve champion, Wern Picsi, a two year old ewe by Clary King-Pin and out of Cochrane’s Jill sold to H Williams, Llangadog, Carmarthenshire. The same buyer also bid 500gns for Bailey Brook Molly, a four year old ewe from D Costelloe, Market Drayton, Shropshire. Molly was by Am Yer Man and out of a homebred ewe.

A ewe from the same breeder was purchased at 450gns. Bailey Brook Noelle, a three year old ewe by Airyolland Kingsize and out of a homebred ewe, was knocked down sold to T I M Hughes, Meifod, Powys, who bid the same money for Bailey Brook Revoke, a yearling from the same flock. She was by Bailey Brook Master and out of Camp House Nina.

Aviemore Nice Girl was the last to sell for 500gns to R Last, Lampeter, Ceredigion. This three year old ewe by Aviemore Lemming and out of a homebred ewe was bred and sold by D E Owen, Rowen, Conwy. The same vendor took 460gns for Artnagullion Patch, a two year old ewe by Headlind Lackey and out of Artnagullion Majory. She was purchased by R E Lewis, Machynlleth, Powys, who also paid 400gns for a ewe from the same flock. Beachy Perfect Blend was a two year old ewe by Clary Kaiser Chief and out of Beachy Majestic.

Mr Morgan continued his sales taking 480gns for yearling Sundey Rhubarb, by Sundey Nobleman and out of Sundey Matilda. She went home with S Yardley, Westbury, Shropshire.

Averages: 11 aged ewes. £409.50; 15 yearling ewes, £436.80.
