Ever wondered if you could do an estate agent's job?

Well visitors turned valuers at the Cotswold Show in Cirencester last weekend as they took part in a competition involving them guessing the value of a country cottage, some farm machinery and an antique item.

Moore Allen & Innocent showed visitors pictures of a detached country property, a combine harvester, two tractors and an antique game counter, all of which had been sold at auction recently.

Competitors were also given a description of each item as they appeared in the auction catalogue.

The actual value of the lots was £572,000 for the cottage, £112,050 for the farm machinery and £1,950 for the game counter - a grand total of £686,000.

Hitting the nail almost exactly on the head was Nick Hemmings who guessed £683,200. He won a bottle of Champagne.

“Our winner was only £2,800 off the actual price, which was either a stroke of extraordinary luck or very clever calculation,” said the firm’s Paul Oughton (pictured with Nick).
