I’ve been contacted by someone who is working on a strand for the One Show that airs on BBC1.
They’re aiming to test whether there is any truth behind old weather lore sayings - to prove scientifically whether they’re true or not.
This woman is keen to hear from farmers who have a view on this.
So if you’re convinced, for example, that if you see red sky at night then a clear day will follow or that cows always do lay down when it’s about to rain – or rely on other similar such sayings – then get in touch with Helen Margerison at Tern tv. Her email is helen@terntv.com
As an irrelevant, but mildly amusing aside, I used to know an old farmer who’d laugh and recite this rhyme:
Red sky and night, shepherd’s delight,
Red sky in the morning, shepherd’s warning,
Mince meat and potatoes, shepherd’s pie!
